Our Shieldvent window was developed initially for a young offender’s facility. There was a big push in the sector to move away from traditional “prison windows” to something that would enhance the environment and help towards rehabilitation.
We were asked to assist with the design of this ground breaking facility due to our phenomenal success in revolutionising fenestration in mental health.
During the design process, we were able to listen to all levels of Ministry of Justice (MoJ) staff discuss the issues and limitations experienced with windows in existing facilities. This gave us an invaluable insight into the challenges and aspirations on which we should focus when developing our solutions.
As with all innovation, we found that in solving problems for one group, solutions that would enhance our offering to others became apparent. When developing the Shieldvent, we realised that it could be perfect for certain situations within mental heath as well as custodial facilities.
The Shieldvent is a horizontal sliding window system comprising a double fronted window and a free sliding internal sash.
The double window has one glazed area and the other is fitted with a stainless steel mesh. The sliding sash is glazed, sealing the mesh side when closed and is weather tight and draughtproof.
The anti-ligature design which reflects the features of our multi-award winning and internationally acclaimed award winning Safevent window, helping maintain a safe and secure environment environment, preventing escape and the passing of contraband which are are a high priority in custodial environments.
Manufactured in a hybrid steel/stainless steel/aluminium, all Shieldvent windows are fabricated in-house at our Warrington manufacturing facility to ISO 9001 standards, and most importantly, always installed by our own Britplas employed fitting teams.
