This newly developed £45 million facility, which replaces the former Abraham Cowley Unit, features four state-of-the-art wards comprising 64 single ensuite bedrooms. Designed to enhance patient experience, each private room offers individuals their own space, fostering a therapeutic environment that supports improved clinical outcomes.
An important feature of the new facility is the integration of electrically operated blinds within the Safevent glazing units. These allow service users to adjust lighting levels independently, promoting autonomy while also ensuring privacy and dignity—key components in delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
In addition to Safevent windows, Britplas carried out the design and installation of fixed light windows, doors, curtain walling and other architectural details including louvres and pressings.
The facility incorporates a range of purpose-built therapeutic spaces, including dedicated music, art, and sensory rooms to create a safe, spacious, and engaging setting to support recovery and wellbeing.
