Project Details
This new six-storey 18,000m2 centre is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus next to the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.
Britplas completed the design (to Level 2 BIM) and installation of 2,500m2 of curtain walling and 250m2 of cladding – completing the full façade building package, including all structural steel work required to build the protruding pods down each side of the building.
The Schüco FW60+ curtain walling sections were manufactured and installed into precast concrete panels off-site for minimal disruption on site and to ensure the fastest possible weather tightening of the building.
The curtain wall screens measure 2.1 x 8m and are around 800kgs with the total panel weighing in around 7.5 tonnes.
The panels are the largest curtain wall screens installed in a precast panel in the UK to date, to our knowledge.
The project won the Supply Chain Excellence Award in the 2017 Construction News Awards.
