Project Details
This project involved the design, supply and installation of the glazed façade using Level 2 BIM to the new SKA building at Jodrell Bank Observatory.
The SKA, a new network of radio telescopes to be built in Australia and South Africa, will eventually have a collecting area of almost one million square metres and will play a major role in answering key questions in modern astrophysics and cosmology.
One of the more architecturally demanding aspects of the projects was the “Doppler Façade”. Designed to take inspiration from the radio waves that are at the heart of SKA’s work, its on-plan, saw-tooth wave profile effectively increases in amplitude as the building transitions from a single storey height space to a two storey and above height space.
